Sycamore Brewing The Story

Founded by the dynamic duo, Sarah and Justin Brigham, Sycamore Brewing opened its doors on November 1, 2014, and has since skyrocketed to become the largest Charlotte-born brewery and a top-three craft brewery in North Carolina. And guess what? At the rate they’re growing, they’re on track to be the largest independent brewery in the Carolinas in 2023!

Their journey began with a 15-barrel, North American made brew-house, where they crafted every drop of liquid gold right on-site. For the first two and a half years, over 80% of their beer was sold directly through the taproom, with select distribution to premises primarily in Charlotte.

But they didn't stop there. They’ve now partnered with 24 distributor partners and their beer is available in all major retailers, spanning across seven states - taking over the nation, one state at a time!

At Sycamore Brewing, they’re all about top-notch ingredients and beer that's as fresh as it gets. They believe that great beer should be enjoyed by everyone, and they’re on a mission to make that happen.

Meet The Brewer

Meet Brad Bergman, Sycamore Brewing's Director who's been brewing up a storm since he joined in 2018. Bergman's journey into the world of craft beer began at Appalachian State University in North Carolina, where he earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry. It was there that he struck up a friendship with a professor over their shared love for craft beers.

The professor was a "really interesting guy," and together, they began to tinker with home brews and experiment with technical skills and flavour complexity. Bergman started to apply his technical chemistry knowledge to brewing, getting hands-on experience.

After graduating, Bergman tried to break into the brewing scene in Asheville, North Carolina, but the competition was fierce. Undeterred, he continued to homebrew and took online courses through the Siebel Institute in Chicago, soaking up all the knowledge he could.

Using his background in chemistry, Bergman has thrived at Sycamore Brewing. He attributes his success to his analytical and detail-oriented mindset, the result of his training as a chemist. He's always looking to improve every part of the brewing process, taking meticulous notes and ensuring consistency.
